What happens to your private plate if forgotten about for 3 yrs and paperwork in the loft?

Hiya,

Got bought a private plate 3 years ago and i think the paperwork is in the loft...saw the box its supposed to be in the other day when I was poking about up there and completely forgot I had it...

What happens now because aren't you supposed to pay a retention or something each year...

Not sure what happens when you forget about it....I have tried searching for it on plate websites and its not for sale (luckily) so I don't think i've lost it....

Any ideas??

If its not on retention it then belongs to the DVLA and they can then sell it.

If it's not on the no. plate sites it's maybe floating about on a car

it gets sold again and you've lost it. a mate found this out while looking for another plate and saw the one he'd bought a few years before.

I though that if they haven't sold it you can claim it back!!
