my brother inlaw had that on his mondeo and it cost him £750 for a new clutch / bearing and dmf because the bearing smashed it up .?
It seems to drive fine. No problem with setting off or gears. Could it still be the clutch?
sounds like the central release bearing is u/s,you have to remove gear box to fit new unit ,bearing and central release are one unit.you will need a line up shaft to line up the bearing .
could well be the dmf on it's way out, does it knock or rattle when cold
When its cold it seems quieter. Its rattles is louder when the engines warm.
It is the dual mass flywheel DMF for short.
Is it something that needs urgent attension or do i wait till it totally goes? Am assuming its a big expensive job?
mines on it's way out too lol...
shop around for prices, the cheapest i have found so far is £550 all in & i will sort it when i get paid this month
Yeh definately sounds like a dual mass flywheel (DMF). The DMF is a poor design andis a costly component to replace as they recommend changing the starter at the same time due to the clutch and flywheel dust getting into the starter. To get it done its basically gearbox out job, you dnt need to worry about it yet but sooner or later it will need to be replaced
