I'd ring him, I'd sooner pay £100 rather than involve insurance.

Officially you should report any and all accidents to insurer

As the repair is probably less than the excess, just pay the repair cost
However, you will then have additional costs, such as day of work, telephone calls, and transport to/from repair or replacement car
Soon £100 becomes nearly double that

my sister in law had someone lightly hit her when the snow was here ..

you could only see the dent when the sun shone on it ..

and the scrape could 75 % be buffed out ..

anyway , her car only cost her 150 pounds ( but insured for about 500-700 ii think )and the work to be done through insurance would have topped 1000 pounds ( replace door, prime , paint and fit , labour etc ..

so her insurance company advised her to claim against the other driver's insurance through Wynns solicitors ( No win , No fee type thing ) which resulted in her getting a cheque for 700 pounds which came in useful for christmas and she just lives with the slight dent on the 150 pound car .

so ( eventually ) my point is , even though you have got a quote for 100 pounds , if you went through a company like Wynns solicitors , No win No fee ( avoiding your own insurance ) , they will probably get an insurance quote for your repair of maybe 500 pounds and possibly , you could get minimum 300 pounds cheque in your pocket , making you a tidy extra 200 quid to spoil on your Vectra or family ...

just depends on what type of conscience you have , was other driver nice and apologetic , then maybe you'd be happy with his 100 quid cash , but maybe if you went through legitimate insurance , their garages might find damage beyond the outside dent / scrape seen to your eyes costing more than 100 ..

but with my idea above you have nothing to lose except a little time investigating a claim with a no win , no fee company and all the costs are covered by the other drivers policy ...

but it depends on what type of conscience you have ........ l.o.l.

Good Luck and let us know what happens .....

    sorry for long post .

It would be for you to decide if you would prefer the third party pays you directly and then not inform your current insurer

I am coming across many more claims where people think it is a non-fault claim / accident, but some blame is attributed and so is processed as at-fault

I am still disputing my claim where a HGV hit me whilst stopped at traffic lights in November last year
However, I always claim on insurance (as I have a nil excess)

I hope you don't ever moan when your insurance rises each year, because this is the reason it happens!!!!!

Back on topic. I personally would get it repaired outside the insurance, make sure it is done to a high standard. If this standard can't be achieved for the price your saying, then get it done properly.

Yes, many people are shocked when they find out they have a portion of blame
This is always the case, when on the roundabout

Different if you are waiting, before entering, and someone drives into the rear
