When done properly and the spring heated and bent so it sits in the seat properly in can be perfectly safe. But for the ammount work and time invloved to do them properly (and teh cost of the gas for torch to heat them) its probs no more money to just buy some springs. you can get them from £90!!!

Why bother? Just drive round for a while and sooner or later the bottom of the spring will snap off anyway!

Incomplete springs will result in failure of any MOT, so you'll only end up having to buy some new springs anyway when MOT time comes around.. may as well save some time and effort and just buy some springs in the first place!
