    Default Car detailing/cleaning

    Hey fellow westies,

Bit of cheeky wierd request I guess lol......I have always just taken the car to the local place that has the whole jetwash/hot shampoo/foam brush etc then leathered the car.

I feel my car could do with some proper attention, so I looked at local valet companies....... How much lol.......
I feel my car could do with a mopping, polish n wax (the works lol)

So im requesting the help from a fellow member to show me the ropes......The right stuff to get for the right budget, techniques and of course the tricks of the trade.

So if anyone is going to detail there car in the west mids and fancies making a day of it and showing me the ropes and maybe help me do my car so I know what im doing and to get me started etc that would be fab.

I will of course pay for any products or materials of yours used, or send me a list of stuff I need but not toooo expensive as my car this week has cost me £600..........

    Cheers peeps

    Mate,

I had the same thoughts as you with regards to getting my car sorted out from a valet point of view. The prices were getting silly for what a professional wanted... So i thought as Jeremy Clarkson does... "how hard can it be!"

Went to halfords, took advantage of their 3 for 2 offer on cleaning products and bought:

    Turtlewax Shampoo
    Megs Clay Kit
    Ultimate Compund
    Autoglym Super Resin Polish
    Autoglym Ultimate Exterior Polish
    Cotton Cloths
    Microfibre Cloths

Followed the advice from the detailing section here, detailing world website and video clips on the Autoglym website and set about my car.

4 Hours later, to say i was happy with the result is an understatement. I had never seen the car as clean, tidy and shiney. I was made over. Really chuffed with the result, and even more so that i had done it myself and not paid someone else to do it.

It really is not that hard. Just take your time, read about the products and you will be fine. Everything i did was with my own fair hand and no electric aids.

Take the plunge and give it a go mate, you'll be glad you did

This place was a wealth of info : http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acata...re-advice.html

    Scotty
Halfords had the deal on last week so might still be on, I've just bought a load of product to try but just need the weather to be good so i can use it! Was hoping to get it done for Sunday but dont think that will happen now.

I use the following, £ and why

    Body
2 Bucket (£2) wash with Megs Lambs Mitt (£10.99)
Megs Clay (£24.99 for kit as includes quik detail although others use Bilt as you can you water as lube and clay bar is only about £10) - to remove contaminents below the surface for smooth panels
Ultimate Compound (£9.99) - to remove swirl marks
Poor Boys Black Hole (£11.99)- use as a filler/masker on any remaining swirl marks
    Autoglym Polish (£8.99)- shine
Carnuba Wax (£10.99)- more shine and seal
Also just got some Megs microfibre pads to apply products with and hopefully going to save up for a Kesteral DAS as last time I spent 7hrs detailing the car by hand my arms were killing!

    Wheels
    Megs Alloy Cleaner (£5.99)
    Nano Tech Wheel Wax (£5.99)
    Turtle Wax Tyre Black (£4.99)

    Interior
Noodle Brush (99p) great for picking up duster
    Nano Tech Cockpit Spray (£3.99)

    And obvioulsy poslishing clothes etc.

These are my personal weapons of choice at present but think its all down to your own preference on how much you want to spend £ and time on it really.

In terms of methods, browse through detailing section or look at detailing world, these guys take it to the next level. http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/vi...=347865&page=1

Bobsignum is very knowledgable on products and methods too. Just take your time with it mate doing a panel at a time.

See you Sunday mate..camera battery turned up too so I'm good to go! Just hope weather holds up, looking grim here today!
