    Default strange headlight fault

have a 2006 elite non xenon that keeps giving me a headlight bulb out warning

sure enough i have a look and the bulbs out.

pop the cover (passenger side) and give the connector a push and it comes back on no problem leave the cover off (which is not touching the bulb or wiring in any way and it will be fine for days. put the cover on and its fine until you turn the car off and start it again. when the bulb will go out and you have to give the connector a nudge.

also found this one side is eating bulbs (i've put 3 in the spce of a month whearas i've not changed a single bulb on the rest of the car in 6 months

any thoughts on this guys? its really starting to annoy me now

Have you tried cleaning the connector contacts instead of just giving it a nudge every now and again?

If you're frequently having to change bulbs, that could be a sign of low voltage - caused by dirty connections (also referred to as a high resistance joint). Does the glass of the blown bulbs look darkened or have a chrome appearance?

BTW, did you touch the bulb glass with your hand? Should carefully wipe it clean with a mint free cloths.

Finger grease on bulbs is really only an issue on halogen headlight bulbs. Wipe off with something like iso prop alcohol or meths.

Shouldn't cause any problems with indicator, reverse, tail, side, or brake light bulbs.

ps, you are only meant to use mint free cloths on VW Polos.
