Default 4x new tyres fitted today!!

Well after giving my tyres a good inspection the other day due to getting loads of droning & vibration through the car on the mway i noticed that 3 of them weren't good at all!!

The back 2 were the worst out of them. At a quick glance they al looked fine with bucket loads of tread left but when i looked at the inside edge, well, they needed relacing asap. The rears were fullrun, 1 of which was ripped to bits on the inside edge with the metal strengthening starting to show & then the other side was seriously unevenly worn on the inside edge like it had bumps in it!!

The front tyres(maxxis) were better but 1 was getting low so decided to do all 4 tyres!!

Anyways, my mate that owns the tyre place said that as far as tyres go maxxis & fullrun are total sh***!!

I wouldn't have replaced them with anything like that anyways. In the end I got a set of 4 Kumho KH31 225/45/17 for 280 fitted & balanced!!

The droning has gone & so as all the vibraton & wobbling!! The car feels a hell of a lot better on the road ride & handling wise!!

i'm gonna keep my eye on the rear tyres & make sure i spot any uneven wear on them, mainly the inside edges again. If it starts again i'll get a full 4 wheel allignement done

Don't wait till the tyres show signs of wear get tracking/wheel alignment done before you ruin another set of tyres. If you had loads of tread but the insides were that badly worn you have got a problem. You really need suspension and alignment checked to find what is cuasing your tyres to wear like that.

This is a sign that the shock absorber has failed

Have the suspension fully examined, and if all is in order, have a full four wheel alignment done NOW
This will prevent these tyres wearing in the same way, giving you the maximum life out of them

I'm running Maxxis on the front of mine. 215/55/R16's

The quietest tyres I've ever had on the Vectra and quieter still since I've had 2 new front springs.

You have got more suspension issues as others have said!

If you've had the maxxis tyres on the car a while, why do you need someone else to tell you they are crap? Surely you'd know how they perform. I've not run Maxxis car tyres before, but I use them on my bike and they are limpet like and a very good tyre.

Would have thought your mate would have picked up on your uneven wear being a suspension problem?

I can vouch for the completely lethal Fullruns, i bought 18's on my old focus with almost new fullruns fitted, i had a blowout on the motorway in the rain, luckily the sidewalls were firm as it somehow didnt take me of course. Next one died a few days later, parked up and when i returned it was flat, inside edge had ripped to shreds. The third one got a nail in it a few days after that, didnt think it was worth repairing!

They are renowned for being downright dangerous and i concur, with them on the back and decent tyres up front any FWD car turns into something out of Tokyo drift. Terrible Terrible tyres.

Fullways are also related i believe, had these too on a wheel and tyre package, rock hard and no grip, but was on a 3 litre BMW so i saw this as a good thing (i.e. sideways )

Kuhmos are an excellent tyre and i'll be replacing the goodyears and michelins on mine with them for sure.

do you know how long i've had my Vectra or how i drive it??

I bought it in mid Feb & don't do a great deal of miles & i also don't go tear arsing around everywhere as i bought a diesel to save on fuel.

I also didn't need him to tell me they were crap, i'd read on forums before that they're crap & i've never been 1 for buying budget tyres. All i've ever bought in about 17yrs of owning cars is goodyear, toyo & now kumho.

As for my mate pointing out the possible cause for tyre uneven wear, he said it could be the shocks. I've already priced up a new pair of rear shocks & can fit them myself. He just said to see how the car felt over the next couple of days & since the droning has stopped i can now hear a slight knocking coming from the back passenger side suspension which is the side with the worst tyre wear

As it stands now i'm on garden leave from work so i'm trying not to spend too much money cos in 30 days time i'm out of work. So taking that into consideration im hardly gonna be racking up miles for the next month or so. All i'll prb do is drive to the gym & back 3-4 days per week which adds up to about 20 miles in total then anywhere else i go, prob to a mate or 2's house etc
