Default How do I disconnect/deactivate the alarm?

    Hi,

I have a 1.8 LS 02 vectra, it has a standard factory alarm fitted; I was wondering if there is anyway of turning the Alarm off, so it is permantly off? I'm having trouble with my key fobs, basically they dont work 70% of the time. they may need new batteries however I havent got round to it yet. So on opening the car the alarm sounds until the key is put in the ignition.

I didnt get a manual with the car upon purchase,

    Cheers,
    Carl

Download a manual here. You can also buy them at dealers. Maybe also try eBay or a Vauxhall scrapyard (may be a long shot but you never know).

If you disconnect the sounder (in the left side of the boot behind the fuses), you may find that the car uses the horn(s) instead (and you can't disconnect them) and/or puts up a fault light.

Get the batteries changed - it's in the manual above. In summary, you need 1 CR2032 battery for each key. Unlock the car before you start (just in case and only if you can keep an eye on it) then for each key in turn pop the key blade off of the body with a thin screwdriver in the slot on the back, open up the body of the key (hinges at the top where you fasten your keyring on). Note how the old battery fits then pop it out and put the new one in. Reassemble the key then put it into the ignition to re-sync it with the car (there is supposed to be about a 5 minute period before it loses sync but mine seem to lose sync as soon as I take the old battery out). Take the key out and check it locks and unlocks the car and turns the alarm off as well.

To lock the car without setting the alarm, reach in through the rear door and press the lock button on the drivers door, then close the rear door.

The central locking will lock all the doors, and the alarm won't be set. I should point out however that the deadlocking won't be set either.

When you want to unlock the doors, just use the key in the door lock as you're currently doing.

EDIT - as your car is an 02 reg, the central locking should work by pressing the drivers door pin (the one that's by the window). Newer facelift cars can only be locked manually via the door panel buttons.

That approach wouldn't work as mine, as it detects an open door, so opens ALL the doors (presumably to prevent you locking someone in the car)
Accidently done it a few times, have to get out of car and lock then unlock car to reset

Won't work as it may use the horn in it's place and throw up a fault code.

The horn thing doesn't work on early cars, my car's sounder was missing when I got it and showed no faults and didn't use the horn
