    Default 1.8 vvti oil consumption/leak?

Hi guys. Are the 1.8 vvti engines known to burn oil? Im not happy with the oil mine is using, its an 08 with 57k on it and im having to top it up every 2 months. Im doin abt 1k a month. Yesterday i was given it a bit of a clean and noticed some oil around the sump area. Im now thinking i have a leak, maybe a crankshaft seal? Any advice welcome

Can only speak from personal experience, but I've owned my VVti for just over a year, have done about 8k in it, and haven't had to top up the oil at any time. Mileage-wise it's only just coming up on 60k, so not vastly different from yours.

I would have to top mine up once a year after the annual service. I just keep some oil the the boot just in case.

If its under warranty and leaking oil, then you're quite right, take it in and see what they say. As for the misfire, I'm not sure I see that being related to any oil leak, but I'm no expert. Might as well mention it when you take it in to have the leak looked at.

Haven't topped mine up in 4 months,if your not getting any drops on the floor under the car wouldn't put it down to a leak

    Well within spec then.

Vauxhall say that an engine can use a 1 litre of oil per 1000 miles.

No two engines are the same. Some will use oil, whereas others won't.

If you change the oil too early on a new engine then the factory oil won't have done its job of bedding in the components and the engine will then use more oil than one that's done 10,000+ miles before its first oil change.

Ive never heard that one before. Its quite common for people to change their oil within the first few thousand miles. I really cant see how putting fresh oil will effect an engine in this way.
