if your buying on finance make sure you include gap insurance
what is gap insurance?
for gavmckay
a type of auto insurance that car owners can buy to protect themselves against losses that can arise when the amount of compensation received from a total loss does not fully cover the amount the insured owes on the vehicle's financing or lease agreement. This situation arises when the balance owed on a car loan is greater than the book value of the vehicle
gap insurance example
according to the blue book, John's car is worth $15,000. However, he still owes a total of $20,000 worth of car payments. In the event that John's car is completely written off as a result of an accident or theft, John's car insurance policy will reimburse him with $15,000. Because John owes the car financing company $20,000, however, he will still be $5,000 short, even though he no longer has a car.
ah cool. thank you. sounds like a good idea
I've got the petrol and no complaints.
Not that I wouldn't take the diesel given the chance...
Had my 1.8 for nearly 5 years now, engine is very reliable (touch wood!), just had the usual common problems. As I understand, it's much simpler and cheaper to work on than the 1.9 diesels.
for a given price you will get a much newer lower milage 1.8, two years seven months ago I wanted a diesel, but only had £3000 cash, found a 1.8 sxi for 3 grand, on 50,000 miles full service history, the same miles and year for a diesel 150 would have cost £4500/5000, I was complaining to a mate a 150 owner, that I had spent 400 quid on discs/ bushes/stat/ wiper linkage, he bought his 150 at the same time I bought my 1.8, he has spent £1800 on repairs, repairs not servicing,,, my 1.8 has averaged 38.7 mpg for the near on 30,000 miles I have done in it, mates 150 has averaged 47 mpg, as for performance yes the 150 is quicker every where, but at a cost, and to be honest would you realy notice .7 of a second difference 0-60 mph time, I do like driving the 150, but if I went back in time would still get the 1.8. NOTE..I now do less than 10,000 miles a year. so its a no brainer for me.
