Default swirl bar off - refitted but think its better off?!

Had a fe posts recently re the 150bhp engine. I had a cam belt failure and during the process of seeing what the issue was noticed the swirl bar off.

Have car back (finaly) and yesterday attempted to refit the bar. The car in stopped position has the 1 2 and 4 flaps loose and at various positions, the third was stuck at 10 o'clock.

Got the bar to go on with the fix on this site but using number plate plastic screw covers, perfect fit, just pop on and have enough grab to stay on.

Went to drive car and low end power is all gone, decided to take bar b ack off as I think its been off for 12 months + and performace was much better.

Not sure if it may be that 1 2 and 4 flaps are flopping open closed as they need to without the bar, or if its a case of number 3 flap being stuck with its motor, perhaps by fixing all in the 10 o'clock position they are all open or all closed and choking the engine?

    Any ideas?

If the 3rd one is stuck as you say it will be keeping the others at the same angle with the bar on.

Only down side I can see is number 3 will be getting a different mixture and could be carboning up more than the other 3.

The missus' car (CDTI 150) has the swirl bar off. Flap 3 moves freely, but the others are seized. I've pushed them into the open position, where they've stayed for 29k miles now, and had no issues at all. No sluggishness, no excess smoke... I intend to get my money's worth from this manifold It's done 122k miles now

Just wait when the bearings finally loose their battle with the partial vacuum being created in the manifold, then they get sucked into the engine. With a bit of luck - as they are plastic, the valves and pistons may smash them up. On the other hand, the flap may get it's own back and cause some serious engine damage.

Before anyone says it, leaving the flaps open when the rod is off is not the same as a manifold with properly working swirl flaps. The is due to the weaker bearings on the old manfiold not being able to support the swirl flaps any longer so they give way in time.
