He has a lack of power. There is many common things to check before worrying about the turbo. EGR, inlet mainifold, swirl flaps/bar and boost sensor for example.

EGR is the prime suspect as the car has the revised inlet (or it should do being late 07 or early 08 mfr.

I urge this be replaced or very thoroughly cleaned as per the How2, before throwing money at it big time, check also for vac leaks on the two pipes at the upper front right under the engine cover as a pin hole in these pipes will cause this as well.

Turbo usually kicks in at around 1700rpm and then tails off at about 3300rpm.. depending on how loud the whistling is, it may just be the sound of your turbo spooling up..

But if you are pretty low on power and the engine feels limited then definitely give parts a clean. Disabling the EGR would sort out any problem with it.. but you would still need to use a blanking plate to close of the EGR. Couple of pros and cons to disabling your EGR though so give it a good think through first.

    Sorry to hijack

So a 08 plate should have the new inlet manifold?
    Anyway of checking?

As I have also not long bought the same age/engine...... And my first ever diesel aswell, sometimes my turbo spools and surges thru the revs, is this normal? and I feel its usin too much fuel.
