Default Complaining to VX head office - where do i stand?

    Hello,

My veccy went in last week for an MOT and cambelt change.

when i got it back it had the EML on.

went back in and they checked it and its the EGR Valve. Anyways, got it checked by AA as it came on whilst away, then said it needed replacing.

I took it back into the garage on Monday and politely that as it was broken whilst they had it they shoudl be looking at fixing it.

They have replied saying its £211 to replace the EGR and update my engine software and i would have to pay for it.

I sent a letter in basically complaining about the whole issue and eventually spoke to the service manager.

He has refused to replace it and was IMO arrogant. He had an answer for everything, no matter what my drivig style was it was what caused it to break. The blanking plates apparently increase the amount of rubbish going in the EGR by restricting the airflow in. even though i checked before it went in and they were pretty clean tbh.

He basically said Forums were useless as people put loads up, so ignoring that hundreds of people have blanking plates and no issues. He said that the MOT wouldnt have broken it even though there was no temperature on the sheets etc.

Now as far as im concerned, my car went in in perfect working condition, never missed a beat. It comes out with the EML on, and now is going to cost me £200+ extra on top of the £366 the cambelt cost me.

If i elevated this to complaining to VX HQ does anyone thing i would get anywhere?

The garage have given me a few issues previously which the service manager just fobbed off and ignored.

    FYI:
    1.9CDTi
    on 66k

*I'm fully aware i could fit it in minutes and the part aint that expensive but as far as im concerned thats not my point.

I reckon you'd be hard pushed to force their hand, it's a part that's known to have issues (although they won't admit it) - it may have failed of it's own accord, doubt an MOT/Cambelt would cause it.

The car is out of warranty so will dismiss any claim

First stage is to work with the garage
You booked the car in for MoT and cambelt, so this is ALL they should have done

If the car was returned with Engine Warning Light then this should be pointed out to garage (as not being present when dropping car off)

Most likely the camshaft or crankshaft sensor became unsettled and failed

As you have previously used this garage and complained, then don't use them again and go elsewhere
There is a VX dealership in Glasgow I refuse to use, complete basic incompetence which they spent four hours trying to fix, the one I usually use took just 15 minutes; as they are same company I had a partial refund and apology

Yep, but the fact they have refused to put an egine temp on the MOT smoke form, the EGR is pretty clean and combined with previous experiences of there uselessness and stuff* its hard to believe.

*For example; they totalled a customers Porsche 911 GT3 RS they were MOT'ing after taking it out for a 'spin'

unlikely to of been caused by the garage, is just coincidental i'd reckon, common problem and would of gone anytime just unfortunate it went whilst the garage had it

If the car was returned with Engine Warning Light then this should be pointed out to garage (as not being present when dropping car off) - It has been and they don't care.

Most likely the camshaft or crankshaft sensor became unsettled and failed - Confirmed EGR failure

As you have previously used this garage and complained, then don't use them again and go elsewhere - True

im afraid you will get the same response from vauxhall, had something similar with them, they left the cover off of the cam belt and caused premature failure of tensioner and all i was offered was to have the cover refitted if i pay for a new cambelt and fitting (£600 on my old v6). i put it down to vauxhall being more interested in fleet sales than customer service. vauxhall were not interested in the slightest. also had a service done and when i complained that the oil had not been changed i was told by the service manager all new oils are black its the new hi tech version ??? hence they have not touched my car since

Found out when collecting. It's not something that they make people aware off.
