Default loud whirring / hoover noise from front driver side

    Hey all!

I've started getting a really loud whirring or hoover type noise coming from the front drivers side of my car.

My sister (mechanic) says that it sounds like it could be my wheel bearing.

Does anyone have any other ideas what it might be?

I've checked both front wheels and if i pull them from side to side, they both have a little give, so something's gone.. but it's had this sideways give for ages now and i've never had a whirring sound!

Deffo sounds like a wheel bearing. It will get more noisy as it wears out more

could potentially be a tyre. put the spare on the suspect side to see if the noise goes away.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll give them a go and see what I come up with.

I got a quote on a new wheel bearing yesterday, Vaux told me that they don't do the bearing on it's own and I have to get the whole hub which comes with the ABS sensor on it..

they want £149! ouch ouch ouch, but only £111.27 with the trade club discount, thank god for the vectra-c trade club! - still pretty expensive though!

I took the car to Alton Towers today, so I gave it a good run and listened to the noise, the noise seems to be audible from 30mph all the way up to 80mph. once I hit over 80 or between 80 and 90, it seems to hit some kind of sweet spot and the noise dissappears.

it's pretty damn loud between 60-80 though! - gonna have to get this fixed sooner rather than later. like this weekend sooner I think!

    Quick update,

Got my usual mechanic to give the car a quick check and he confirmed that it deffo seems to be the wheel bearing. (gotta love having a friendly mechanic that'll do quick checks for free ;D)

So I've ordered a new front right wheel hub from LMF! saved me a good £30 buying from LMF instead of the dealers who wanted £112 with trade club discount ;o

just waiting for the hub to arrive and i'll get to fitting it and -hopefully- the noise will go! yarr.

also, new exhaust on tuesday! will post some before/after pics in the exhaust forum

    ARGH!!!!!!

I've spent 3 weeks trying to get this job done, and every step of the way there's been problem after problem after problem!

first we didn't have the right tools, then all the joints were stuck stiff as hell and we couldn't get them off, then one of the bolts were rounding off, then we finally managed to get the whole thing out!

Only to find that the wheel hub i bought from LMF has the wrong ****ing ABS sensor!!!!?!?

    I bought this part: http://www.lmfvauxhall.co.uk/Front-W...-93186388.html

because my VIN number starts with 68 something... which is "58000 and onwards" right?

well, apparently wrong? - the ABS plug on the new wheel hub has round pins, but the ABS socket on my car has flat pins! WTF!!!

On a lighter note, I would get your hoover checked out if it sounds like a dodgy wheel bearing... probs best to trade it in for a Dyson
