Default Japan nuclear radiation detected in Glasgow!

Just heard this on local radio, radioactive iodine has been detected in a pollution monitoring station in Glasgow. Its not looking good.

It does say that the levels are extremely low so no need to panic

Except thats what they also said in Japan...

Iodine has a half life of about 60 days, so without knowing the level measured (and I doubt Glasgow City Council will release the exact info) there is no way to know and comment
However it does show how quickly the northern hemisphere jetstream can move air around the planet...

Equally, it appears strange that only one of the SEPA monitoring stations has detected this

My thinking is as this drags on the levels might go up. Its worrying they have made it all the way over to the UK.

I read it to say it's very low level and nothing to be concerned about, they say it proves how effective the monitoring is? Didn't even know they monitered UK air for contaminants.

The fallout from Chernobyl was detected in this Country not long after it happened.

Can't recall seeing any 3 headed dogs and people with 3 arms because of it.

    In short, stop panicking.

Well make time to come up here and see me, I will take you on a tour of some parts of Glasgow where not having the above is considered "abnormal"

There are loads of air quality monitoring stations across the UK, but in Glasgow there seem to be loads of them!

The above one appears to be the device that picked up the Iodine as it also provides information to SEPA
