    Default Advice please!

    Hi all
Not really been active on here since becoming a full member, but I'm in need of advice from those in the know!

I bought a 2006 CDTi V6 vectra which keeps going into limp mode! Vauxhall seem pretty clueless and the guys i bought the car from have already "fixed" it once. I've now sunk £1000 into it (not including the hire car costs i've had to endure). I did the brake+accel pedal diagnostic and it gave me: 0234 and 0093

P0093 Fuel System Leak Detected Large Leak
    P0234 Engine Overboost Condition

Anything i can check? Or any specialists in the south that i should be taking the car to?

I'm emigrating to Canada at the end of April, so I either need to get it repaired and sold, or sold as is... not been a great 5 months of ownership

clean the boost sensor and check the pipes that feed the air from the intercooler for leaks is where I would start

I see you bought it in October 2010
Did it come with a warranty?
You could still reject the car, less the mileage already done

How much has the repair / diagnostics cost so far (excluding hire car)?
    What exactly has been done?
Are they a dealership or independent?

Have you taken the car to another garage?
Do you have breakdown membership (AA, RAC, etc)?

Here is the story from the day i got it...

Bought in Oct 2010 from Force Vans (in Didcot) as an ex (met) police car. 2006 CTDi 3.0 auto. I knocked them down on price as the interior was missing bits and the exterior had plenty of dings/scratches (all things i thought i could tidy up) - I naively thought an ex-police car would've been well serviced etc. The purchase was quite spontaneous.

i picked the car up, and the spanner light came on when driving back! I was already doing 70mph so didn't notice limp mode. I thought i'd stop at the next services, but it cleared, so i put it down to the car being sat around undriven. Being out the country quite often, it didn't get driven that much, but over a few weeks it started dropping into limp mode more and more often. Took it in to get looked over and the guy (brother in law) referred it to Vauxhall. It was serviced (oil+filters) and the battery changed. Fixed it for a couple days tops. I then contacted the seller and they said get it into Vauxhall for diagnostics and they'd pay. So i did... Vauxhall gave a few scenarios costing from £1500-£5000 (mostly involving a new turbo because of the control module attached to it). I got the seller in contact with them and they figured some resolution on a fuel pump part (sorry i'm not too technical). Seller was happy to get the work done, but the Vauxhall garage wanted too much to do it. So i had to get the car back up to them (150+ miles?) and as i wasn't around much, paid for the transport. I picked the car up on Friday and it was ok coming back. I parked it at work as i was using a van over the weekend (moving out my flat in preparation for moving to Canada). Started it up this morning and it was instantly in limp mode with the fault codes above.

    To answer your questions M8:

Did it come with a warranty? No
You could still reject the car, less the mileage already done i said i wanted to return the car for a refund - maybe i should have said minus the miles done? They said "we can't take it back as it isn't worth that much now"... well obviously.

How much has the repair / diagnostics cost so far (excluding hire car)? I paid £225 for new battery and first load of diagnostics. The rest is cost i expected really (excl transport of car to oxford... £200)
What exactly has been done? I'm not exactly sure - i can ask. As above, something to do with the fuel pump was fitted, a new battery, and new oil + filters
Are they a dealership or independent? Independent

Have you taken the car to another garage? Yes. I took it to a garage of someone i trusted who referred it to the local Vauxhall centre (as he knew them)
Do you have breakdown membership (AA, RAC, etc)? No

The retailer is in the wrong, as they MUST take it back if that is the return option you put to them
The car has clearly had a fault which they have been unable to resolve
It doesn't matter what it has cost them (sounds like they are deducting this from the value they put on it, less the mileage)
Pass the matter to Trading Standards, advising you are rejecting the car as it was bought five months ago and is still faulty

M8 - thanks so much for the advice! I called Consumer Direct and got some more good advice! (Trading Standards points you to them)

For anyone interested: On the below link, there are letter templates.
    http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/aft...plate-letters/

Letter 1 - I paid mostly by credit card and therefore have some cover under section 75 of the Consumer credit act 1974

Letter 6 - Calls out the Sale of Goods Act 1979

Recommended, pay at least £100 as deposit although £200 - £250 is preferred
I personally use £1000 as deposit

I also put the car on a finance agreement for at least three or four years (depending on warranty)
Even if I can afford to buy the car, I put at least some of it on finance
Should something go wrong, they own the car so will take the matter further
On my current car I put 25% on finance for three years

i was investing in the stock market and decided to use the cash I had on investing - the potential to make was more than the interest would be. Fortunate really as it meant ~85% of the payment went on the credit card! (Although it isn't guaranteed anything will come of it, but it's another level of potential protection)
