    Default Error codes p1525 & p1550

I just had my car fully serviced and MOT'ed last month. Today my battery dies so I popped a new one in, lovely. I decided to do the old pedal trick to see if I had any faults and I do

    p1525 & p1550

Now I have found out what they mean individualy via this site but can anyone tell me what they would suspect the fault to be with these 2 codes collectively. The car has no other indications (no spanner light {yet}). It is a 1.8 petrol 54 plate life model.

    Thanks for your replies.

    From the the following:

P1525 - Throttle Body Service Required

However I can't find the other code, maybe worth a recheck there.

thanks for the replies, I got that. What I want to know really is what is the actual fault? Is it a part needed or a clean up? what sort of costings and what are the long term effects if not fixed ASAP.

Honestly, if you only know this by reading the codes with a scanner or pedal procedure and running isn't affected, I'd wait until the MIL light or Spanner light comes on.

I check for codes regularly and sometimes the is a code there ( P0536 is a common cruise control one) and I'd had another involving MAF and Lambda sensor.

If these are not serious enough to light the MIL light on the dashboard (engine light), it's usually a sensor just thrown a wobbly or a situation that's happened to cause it to light.

I'd personally wait to see if it clears. If the problem gets worse and the MIL light comes on and the codes are still present, that's the time to do the job.

I'm sure there's a HOW2 on her how to clean the throttle body!

    And here it is LINKY.

As HOW2 says, theory should be the same across most engines.

Thanks for that, really appreciated. Top tip though on letting the car tell me when it needs fixing as apposed to be being paranoid. Im sure if I was to read the fault codes daily I would be panicking over nothing. See as that How 2 is so easy I may just give it a bit of a clean though. For now im gonna play dumb until the little spanner or engine light comes on, what I don't know won't hurt me

Exactly. If you didn't know that procedure or code reader, you'd think nothing was wrong!

I expected to need a new O2 (lambda) sensor in Jan 2010. That fault soon cleared and have been through two MOT's since with clean emissions.

If yours is a late 04 1.8, you may not have an EGR system and therefore, as carbon and soot won't be being re-combusted through the engine.

If this is the case. you throttle body won't be that mucky!
