Default Intermittent wipers: How do they work?

I know, it sounds like a daft question ( probably is ).

Push the wiper stock down and it wipes once. Then the little wheel on the top of it is used to adjust the time interval between wipes, yeah?. Well sometimes when I push it down the once, it works fine and sometimes it just wipes once and thats it, unless I fiddle with the wheel on the top and then it does it intermittently. What am I doing wrong here?. And also, are these rain sensitive wipers?. How do I know?.

    Ta for any info.

    Gaz.

Sounds like you are doing it wrong, on mine if I press the stalk down, it will wipe once, if I lift the stalk up to 1st position it will rain sensertive intermitent wipe[can be adjusted by the wheel on the top for time of intermitent]. lift the stalk to the position 2 nd or 3rd they are for permanantly on ordanary wipe and fast wipe.
I hope this has made it easier to understand..

on mine, if i push the wiper stalk down once, it switches auto wipers off (the dial is the senstivity control) down once more put the wiper on once.

Basically it's push down once for a single wipe. One click up turns on the intermittent wipe/rain sensitive wipe - the wheel adjusts the sensitivity of the rain sensitive wipers or the speed between wipes on the normal wipers. One more click up will turn on fast wipers. Clicking down again will go backwards in the process....fast wipe to intermittent to off to single wipe.

You'll know if you have rain sensors by there being a rain sensor on the windscreen just around where the rear view mirror is. It's a black squareish thing.

it took me a while to get the hang of this system the first time i had to use them, trying to understand the way they work is not recommended when trying to drive whilst raining! this ofcourse was before i read the manual.

just make sure you're looking on the outside of the widnscreen, not from inside the cabin, you'll be searching a good long while otherwise!

if you've got a scroll wheel then i'm assuming you must have a rain sensor as the scroll controls the sensitivity to the amount of rain on the screen, as opposed to adjusting the time interval.

what would be the point of the scroll wheel otherwise?

lol @ Harry. Yep, I wasn't clear that you need to look on the outside - but kinda assumed that would be obvious! lol I thought non-rain sensor models still had the scroll wheel? It lets you adjust the timing between each swipe so that you can adjust to different intensities of rain.
