Is there an induction kit available for the V6 CDTI?
Bump
I would have thought so. What sort are you after? Open or closed filter?
Just had a quick look on ebay, something like THIS would probably fit and for a tenner its ideal to see if you like it before spending maybe £100 on one only to find you don't like it.
I had one of those on my GSi and it worked as well as a K&N over priced kit. Some moan on about heat soak but to be honest I never noticed any and the sound more than made up for it.
I just went for a K&N panel filter for my V6 CDTi. Cost about £40 from Ebay.
Open induction kits do suffer quite a bit from heat soak. I tested this years ago on my mk2 CRX VTEC.
I'd gone quite crazy with the tuning, cams, pistons, ported head, flywheel, bigger injectors, inlet manifold. DTA ECU the works so wanted the best possible air intake system!!
I could plug my laptop into the DTA ECU & watch all the info from the various sensors in realtime as i was driving.
I'd started off with a huge K&N cone & a carbon intake pipe. I can't remember what the exact figures where but during the summer the engine bay temp stayed quite high up to about 50+mph. At the time it had 2x 3" cold air feeds & 1x 2" cold air feed. So with no cold air feeds at all the engine bay prob wouldn't have cooled down as much at 50mph
I then had a carbon airbox made to fully enclose the K&N cone & had it fabricated to use the 3 existing air feeds. The engine bay itself around the airbox was slightly warmer as the cold air was being channeled into the airbox & not just into the bay.
I then put the temp sensor inside the airbox & the temp was a hell of a lot lower at all speeds.
In the end the CRX was running 236bhp at about 7.5k rpm. Not bad for a NA 1.6!! well, the had was the orignal 1.6 but the block was from a 1.8VTEC Civic & had oversized Type R pistons fitted!!
Very good question, I'd forgotten about that. There is probably room to cable tie it securely but i cannot remember.
For £10 those ebay ones are great. As for the heat soak, 500bhp cossies, can they all be wrong?? Loads of tuned cars use them and they are too cheap to ignore. Even if you do worry about the heat.
As i said before, i've used open ones on many cars and never noticed any bad effects from the heat. Even if its 5hp, so what
Yeah, for a tenner, might give it a go. I've seen on the MX5's they sometimes use one of the fog light holes for the air intake, not entirely sure about that on the Siggy. I also thought of putting a pair of astra GTE style vents in ( http://www.tuning.gen.tr/imagdatas/1867_a.jpg) Not bothered at the mo about big exhausts and mega bhp. I used the 10k boost a little while ago and the sound without the air box connected was sweet. I'd just like to hear a little more of the V6 tone... and a few little extra BHP's is always nice.
There is plenty of places to run hoses for cold air feeds if you wanted too.
If you do get this one please post a vid of the sound. Would love to hear it before I go down the same route
