Who has been charged by their banks???

Whos had £30 charges applied to their account because of being overdrawn or not enough money in their accounts when DD's or cheques have been due?

I'm following a procedure at the moment to try to reclaim the 8 charges against my account since 2000 at a cost of £264. Going by what I've been reading Banks settle most of the time rather than go to court and have it ruled as a penalty notice which is illegal!.

Most of the cases submitted have been settled before court.

Anyways I'll post up how i get on.

yep i heard of this before, make sure u open another account with someone else, they try to freeze ya funds and get funny etc

My bank charged me. (Natwest)

I complained to them and explained that they had better refund the charges or they would loose me as a customer. I had been loyal to them for 17 years, but had no problem with changing banks. They backed down and credited my account. (£56). bargain...

Ask them for the address for the Banking Watchdog, they charge them about £60 per letter/contact, they will soon back down.

yeah i read about this before, apparently the bank actually give you money back, now its not very often that happens is it.

gonna hit the credit card companies as well, pity is though i throw away my statements only keep the previous year, although i do believe u can request copies.

Years ago when i had no money i was always over drawn, as long as you contact your bank(natwest was mine)they could always allow unaranged borrowing without charges. Since then a few times i have gone over the limit for ONE day and been charged for it, but i get straight on the phone and Natwest has ALWAYS refunded the charge back into my account.

I'm a member of Which? and they've got a campaign going against these charges. Here's a PDF from a members only section of the website showing what you can do with bank charges - and a PDF about credit card charges. Let me know if you want the (Word) templates and I can e-mail them to you.

Don't worry about not having previous years statements. You can get copies from the bank/credit card company of course - but they'll charge you each one! You'll see there's a bit in the first PDF where you can get a printout of charges for no more than £10 for the past six years - due to the Data Protection Act.
