    Default Knocking from the front

Car had a DMF clutch and slave all fitted when I bought it at 34.5K but noticed a slight but annoying little clunk off the n/s on really rough sections of road. From my 9-5 I know the things to check and the suspension is all within tolerance and have mostly ruled this out.

What I have noticed is that the engine seems rather more loose than I would like to the point that it has a slight clunk all it's own when you start it. Are the engine and gearbox mounts prone to softness /looseness / failure, if so which one is the more likely to be a suspect and can anyone paste an epc diagram of the mountings to let me see what I am up against.

I sort of suspect one of the gearbox mounts as the car had the cradle supporting the engine during the DMF transplant and the o/s engine mount was left un-touched,,,,,,

What sort of speed are you doing when you hear it?
My car had been doing this for a LONG time, nothing found
In December it was reported the nearside front drop link had play
Replaced both front drop links two weeks ago and the noise has gone

walking pace over rough pockmarked roads for one, but, why I suspect the engine mount is that when I engage the starter when the engine catches I get a thunk! as the engine jumps into life, or am I being a bit over hopeful at being a simple fix for once

    Who did the DMF?
Did they replace the clutch at the same time?
Not pointing any elbows, but the clunk on gearchange...

Evans Halshaw did DMF clutch and slave I don't get any on gearchange only on starter motor after the engine catches.

Steven I do think its one or both of the gearbox ones but will do one at a time then do the upper engine side as I do know the suspension and it is all fine and tight enough to discount that.

thanks guys confirming my suspicions nicely.

    i'd suspect mounts too

but i had the same on the rear, eventually turned out to be arb bushes....so don't count this out

for the cost of them, i'd replace front and rear arb anyway. rears are easy, fronts, might need to drop subframe to access the bolts
