Its a relations car i was asked to service (took pics today cos i was gob smacked!), the oil filter should be 'straight' but as you can see i put a straight edge against it to show its actually imploding with the pressure of trying to suck through a 5 yr old filter!, the mouse nest was a total supprise! & it was actually EATING the filter housing! in this pic!! .

Just shows how important it is to check for new filters and clean oil after a service. God knows how a rodent got into the air filter housing and where did the paper come from.

Dont know but they were large pieces & were fairly well packed!, You gotta feel for the old guy who owned it before my reli, He thought it was getting serviced when they were taking the p**s!.

That is shocking, hence why I also check the filters after a service
I then mark them with date
For the ones I can't date (such as the fuel filter) I ask for them back

A slight oversight on my last service, asked for all filters and listed them
Dealership didn't replace the pollen filter, but they didn't charge me for it, so did it myself
At least it was one of the easy ones!

+1 to the above. After the first service (At a holden dealership) Got slugged with a $1500 AUD MINOR service fee. EG fluids, diagnostic etc. After that, either buy my own parts, or if it has to go to a stealership, definintely ask for the OLD parts back. I've found its better to wait the 30 minutes and witness some mechanics putting new fluids / parts into your car, than risking the chance of getting dogged.

I truly belive from experiance that from the markings on the air filter it was the original factory fitted one, thats from a Y (51) rg till now!, This isnt the first time, I found my nephews 05 rg diesel berlingo van had been serviced by main dealer & again a trusted garage that had both charged several times for a diesel filter replacemant, when i changed it last year it had a factory fitted & date stamped 2005 filter fitted!.

Wizard take the Vec as an ideal example. Service intervals of 20K miles or once a year, so you get some person that only does 5k a year and a garage that says stuff it, its done 5k from its last service, give it a wash outside and top the oil up, stamp the book and job done, £200 please................. Not bad if you could do 10 services a day like that. Even asking for filters back is no guarantee is it? Finding a good independent is the answer, someone who relies on business via word of mouth, not a franchised garage that has "Targets" to meet.
