    Default Calling 2.2 direct owners/drivers

Been out for a bit of a blast and noticed (again, i.e. nothing new so it's not something that has changed) that when you get to about 5,500 - 5,750 rpm say in 2nd gear (accelerating hard) it seems to be reluctant to carry on and push hard for the red line (sort of runs out of puff after lots of torque all the way up to that point). A bit breathless at the extreme top end I suppose is the best way to describe it. Not like my Omega 2.5 V6 was whereby it eagerly pulled around to the 6750 rev limiter with no problem at all even with 90k + miles on the clock. Is this normal 2.2 behaviour or is there something amiss with mine or is there some simple mod I should have done to fix it?

    Thanks

Could it be anything to do with using 95 often supermarket stuff) instead of super? Going to try some Sainsburys super now the price has come down (Sainsburys is BP so would the super be the same as BP Ultimate or whatever it's called?).

I got one as a hire car whilst mine is being repaired and I noticed that too. Although it's only got 800 miles on it!

    Vehicle : SRi

    Engine : Z22SE (2.2 Petrol)

    Year : 2004

    Mileage : 137000

    Default

My 2.2 non direct (z22se) pulls right up to the red line. Has the flat spot a lot lower in the rev band though.

Mines mental in 3rd... Exactly like my old 8v Astra. Might well be a GM Trait..
    And i love it!
I usually like to shift the stick quick at 50 in second then, if you've got the room floor her in 3rd and just when you get the urge to change to 4th Don't!
Thats when she goes a bit potty easily pulled 80 on my private road at that point and thats when she displays her torque.
All i'll say is the VX top speed figure is a little conservative.
I've got a BMC Air filter (K&N? Don't believe the hype)
    The airbox mod.
Occasional bottle of Nitroux in the fuel tank, and always Shell V Power/Tesco 99 ron from the pump.
Anyone else found this with theirs?

Mine's only just turned 6k on the mileage (I've had it from 3341 miles and haven't really pushed it at high revs). Could it be partly that the engine is still not fully loosened up?

PS - it pulls very well through the mid range 2000-5000 - the torque feels very good particularly on part throttle.

AH!!! You didn't tell me that little jem!! Lol.
To be fair i'm not a firm believer in the notion that modern engines are more run in from new these days.
The b*ggers are tight when new,and i would still to this day say, take your time with it,run her in gradually, you'll know when she's loosened up!
Mines jst done her first 20k and she's now getting some character about her!

Engines (if looked after) mature like a good bottle of wine in my opinion.
Also i run mine on Castrol Sport Oil,seems to be decent stuff!
