Default thinking of swapping the SRI for a VXR

owned the SRI for over 2 years now and getting quite bored. my situations changed since i bought the diesel. back then i was travelling from base back to Lpool every weekend so the diesel made sense. now however, i have a mrs here so i only travel back once a month if that.

i also live on base so the car just sits here through the week. therefore i dont really have any need to be sensible anymore. love the VXR in arden so thats what id be looking at . you can get them now for the same price i paid 2 years ago for mine on the same reg.

    HOWEVER.......a few questions.

as some of you will know i also have a jetski & so need to be able to tow (yes i know a 2.8 petrol isnt an ideal tow car but where i go is only 15 mins away anyway. my question is is it legal for the VXR to tow in the 1st place? i ask because in the case of the focus ST you can get a towber to fit but its illegal to tow with it

if so i could remove my detachable from the SRI and fit it to the new one.

secondly, i hear tax is round £400 on the VXR, out of curiosity is it also much more to service than the SRI?

lastly, how much do you guys reckon mine is worth in part ex and private sale?? its a 57 plate CDTI covered just under 54K with full service history.

    thanks in advance guys

just get it done matey. Servicing is no more expensive than the sri except 2 more plugs, and its actually not a bad engine to work on, tax goes up to £445 from 1st april but its well worth it. Obviously coming from a diesel your going to notice the mpg drop but i get mid twenties around town with quite a heavy right foot out of my mapped 2.8 and i love it.

Ok towbar, I have no idea.

    Tax, yep £425.

Fuel, if your not doing any miles then get a petrol (More fun)

The downfall will be the part ex price I think you will get around £4000 part ex, maybe a bit less. Private sale will pay more, maybe around £5500 - £6000

But I would do it. I would have got a VXR but they were slightly out of budget by £1000. Got a 3.2 V6 and I love it

obviously the vxr is the vec-c enthusiast's choice, great machine.
but - road tax is going up to £445 from April 2011, so that's a bit on the eye-watering side for a lot of motorists.
