the amount of petrol he put in compared to diesel shouldnt have made that much difference tbh. My dad stuck £10 of pure petrol no diesel, it ran for about 600yards then conked out, filled it up with approx 5 gallons of diesel and bleed it through started ok... no further issues..

advice is just to change the diesel filter and keep it topped up after every £10-£15's worth of diesel used

That amount of petrol in £40 of diesel should be fine. Best to fill it to brim with diesel and give her a good hard run, until almost empty

i remember hearing many years ago that you can add petrol to a diesel to stop the diesel from freezing (or waxing) in very cold weather, so what was put in yours shouldnt have done any permanent damage.

A mate of mine runs a BMW 320, and puts about £2-£3 of petrol in a tank of diesel every now and again to flush it out and has had no issues at all
