    Default MOT Testers - Help!

    Hii,

My car went in for a MOT and cambelt Tueasday, and well what can i say!

I got it back, walked into the car park and the engine warning light was on. It got turned off and cleared but came back on again last night.

They have said that it came on when they did the smoke test and its 'just ot clogged'

Now in a year of ownership i have only had to have clutch/DMF replaced, spending £366 on a cambelt and this has thoroughly annoyed me!

I'm sure that the car is meant to be gotten upto 80degress or as close to possible for the test. If this is done, then there should have been no consequences at all.

Can anyoen confirm that this is true?

    When to do the test
The smoke test must only be completed when the engine is at normal operating temperature.
It is not normally sufficient to run the engine with the vehicle stationary to warm it up to temperature
The engine oil temperature measured by a probe in the oil level dipstick tube is to be at least 80°C, or normal operating temperature if lower (60°C minimum). Testing an engine below normal operating temperature may affect the test result

I am nominated tester and yea, the smoke machine oil temp probe will sample the oil temperature and will not let you proceed with the test until the oil is at the correct temperature. However, some machines will allow you to bypass the oil temp check, and a lot of testers do this if the temp guage shows the engine is hot. Not really best practice to bypass it, but it does happen. I never do, because then the oil temp is on the printout which goes some way to covering me should anything happen. It shows I've carried out the procedure correctly.

The MOT readout has no temp on it as they haven't taken and recorded it.
