    Default Air con problem

    Hi Guys,
For the first time I tried the aircon on my vectra C today but the air seems tepid not cold like it should be. The manual says that it'll only get as cold as the coldest setting on the adjustment knob, which is I think 17 degrees (I might be wrong) and that's not cold enough for an aircon. The previous owner said it's been recharged 6 months ago.
Any explanations/ help will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Az

The air blowing out of the vents should be considerably colder than 17 degrees. It's possible the system has a slight leak and the refrigerant has leaked out hence needing the re-gas in the first place. A good air-con company should be able to flush the system and put a dye in to see if there's any leaks. What was the outside temperature at the time? The air-con system won't kick in even if the button is pressed if the temperature is below 4 degrees outside I think.

When I got my Vec the Air con blew warm. I took it back to the dealers to be regassed. Lasted about a week then started to blow different warm temps out of the front air vents. When I took it back again to moan they found around 5 leaks in the condensor and had to order a replacement part. It took 2 months to get the part as they seem to be a weak spot on the vecs and in demand (mine is a 06 facelift)

Now it works fine but I did place some wire mesh behind the front lower grill to protect it from stones etc.

I would get it checked for leaks first to be sure

The AC needs to be used regularly to stop the rubber seals from drying out (at least once every 2 weeks - even in winter). Not only is there refrigerant inside the AC system, there is oil too.

6 months is a long time for it not to have run. I suspect at the very least it will require a recharge again. Hopefully the seals will recover and soften up once they've been soaked in oil again.

Sorry if this is teaching granny to suck eggs, but you can use the heater in conjunction with your AC - it makes for a quick demister. It's not only for using in the summer to keep the cabin cold. Use it all year round, or lose it.

No You are right in that Big Dave, I assumed things were done and it was regassed and I left it at that.I will have it checked next week and get it sorted. I have the bill to prove that it was regassed but unfortunately there seems to be a problem, leakeage probably.
Will let you know what I find out.
And my car is an 07 CDTI 150 if that makes any difference.
Thanks for the useful Info/Advice, Much appreciated.
