Default Replacing Tie Rod and Tie rod end

    Hi All,

Had some play in the driver side wheel, most definitely left to right play so hoping it to be a simple matter of the inner tie rod / tie rod end. Followed the instructions I have found from various sources and removed the original. When I removed the gaiter a significant amount of oil ran all over my arms and my drive!

Does this indicate a bigger problem with the power steering/rack??? Have I ******ed up because I thought I could do such a simple job myself!!!

    Help please................

Think the rack must need a recondition. Found that the fluid level was well down so have topped it up for now to see how quickly it is leaking. Hopefully that will tide me over for a while as cant afford a replacement right now!

    Thanks for the reply.

think youll find that the "oil " is actually the grease from inside the tie bar gaiter that lubricates it , much like a cv joint and gaiter

Thanks for the reply, but the amount of fluid that came out (probably a cup worth) was too much to just be the usual lubrication. I think the rack must be leaking fluid so topped it up for now and going to monitor how bad the leak is.

    Thanks for the replies,
