    Question Removing Air Intake restriction?

Been bugging me for a while so wanted to throw the question out there. I noticed on the Irmscher Grill (perhaps on the standard one also) that the top 2 rows of vents are blocked off at the back....

This also happens to be the position of the air intake, therefore the air feed doesn't feed directly but actually goes through the bottom of the grill, hits the radiator and the air that is dragged upwards is then sucked into the air intake...

After looking at a friends evo it seems that his feed is wide open between the grill and the bonnet and recieves a ram effect and direct feed.

My question is... would it be worth cutting out the blanking on the slats directly infront of the air intake opening? And has anyone tried this and had problems/positive feedback?

The main problem would be the ingress of water and dirt... but judging by the amount of flies and chunks of crap I had in my airbox when I serviced my K&N it wouldn't be much worse... and water wise if you were to drive through flood water it would still flood the air system with or without the slats if the water was high enough...

A mate had a 55 plate mitsubishi lancer and a car went through a puddle on the other side of the road from him but soaked his car and he needed £1800 worth of engine repairs as the water had sucked through and damaged internal parts.

My pre face has nearly the whole intake visible behind the Irmy Grill. If you have a turbo it wont change a thing mate, even the minor temp differences wont really come into affect. If you have an oil burner then yes its vital you don't get any water in there, my old mans brand new Pug got written off due to hydraulic lock, well that and the fact the dropped it off the side of the low loader.
