Thinking about an ICE install.

I would be looking to install:
2 x 10" Subs
2 X 8" mid range Speakers
2 X 6 x 9's
1 X Amp

These would all be installed in to the rear. I have no idea about the electrical side of life. What other accessories would I need to make this work? Just so I can kind of price it all up. Ill work out how to fit it after lol.

1st off scrap the 8" mids and the 6x9s .... you dont own a SAXO!

If your going to do this do it properly first time, A decent set of components in the doors and sound deadening will sound 100x better than 8" mids and gay by 9's .....

The next question is what's your budget .....

Ok lol. I want to put the whole install on to a custom frame in the boot (Which I can make) So that would be sub's, amp's and anything else I would need extra.

I am more than happy to fit new door speakers.

Budget, hmmmm, I am guessing around £1000 but I would also be buying a new double din head unit. So about £500 for the rest. (It does not have to be brand new!)

well what you have to think about with your idea is how much the subs will move compared to musical speakers, you would have to put them all in there own box's. id assume that you would still cause issues tho & tbh would sound really pants.

Have a look on Talkaudio.co.uk if you read up on there about some of the best sounding installs in the country you wont go far wrong

For £1000 personally id go for comps front / coaxial rear / sound deaden doors & a nice twin sub box run off a 4 channel amp for the doors and 2 channel for the subs

Wiring kits also play a big part in your system's quality, always fit the best you can afford

You may as well spoke french to me there lol, I understood certain things but apart from that, I have no idea lol.

Could I not have a box for the sub that is held down to the car, then have what ever else I need either side?

Im unsure of the movement issue.

the general rule is music in the cabin ..... bass in the boot .....

Amps and subs belong in the boot musical speakers belong in the cabin space for your musical pleasure

Front components, twin 10s or a single 12 all running from a 4 channel or a pair of amps. I only run the rear door speakers off the headunit coz I want the main sound to come from upfront, as mentioned above, don't forget the cabling coz it will make or break the system.

You also need to remember the end product (sound quality) is only as good as the Device Producing the sound. you could have the worlds best speakers and amps but if there running off a cheap china ebay crap headunit then they will sound like 50p speakers from a carboot sale!

bensterzback has given a lot of good advice in this thread. I never understood people using 6 x 9's in the rear and smaller speakers in the front. Would you go to a concert and stand with your back to the stage? lol besides which beyond cutting great big holes in the shelf there's no where to put them in a Vec.

Your sound stage (where the music projects to) should be front centre "ish", so more power in the front than the back but good quality speakers in all doors just more power to the fronts. And as bensterzback says, subs in the boot (although the reason for that is purely space as you feel subbass you don't hear it, so it doesn't matter where in the car the bass bins are technically).

The Vec has spaces in all doors for 6.5" speakers and seperate tweeters so use good quality components in each door and some decent bass in the back. But use a quality head unit or it will all be a waste of time and money
