    Unhappy Auto gearbox

Hi can anyone tell me how you can tell which auto box is in your car F33 or F40 having some problems ( jerky changes ). My car is Life estate 1.9 cdti 150 2007/ 07 29000 Miles.

It should be marked on the case somewhere.... or you can ask your local Vx stealer or any of us with OpCom to do a VIN decode for you, which will tell you the original build of your particular vehicle.

    I believe a 1.9 should have an AF40 tranmission.

It will be an AF40 box and a full fluid change wouldn't hurt for starters, including the fluid in the torque converter and cooler.

I'm no expert but, the most obvious way to check is that the AF33 is 5 speed, AF40 is 6 speed, so stick it in 'manual' mode and go up the box, hit 6 and its AF40, only 5 and its the AF33

I got that done on my AF33... And WHAT a change.. totally different and very much smoother... I got it flushed through so that old oil in the converter could come out, and at the same time fitted an extra cooler for the transmissionfluid..
