    Default Tuning Boxes and Remaps

There seems to be mixed opinions on these!

Why do people go for tuning boxes rather than a remap? Apart from being able to remove the box whenever you want, I cannot see any reason why someone would have a tuning box over a remap?

Like you said, you can remove them. That in itself is more than sufficient a reason for someone with a company car or does not intend to keep the car in the long run to use them. Also, remaps can be detected and read out with a Tech2 by the Vx garage and over writen when the perform routine ECU updates.

Tuning boxes also tend to yield more power and torque gains than remaps because they run higher fuel rail pressures.

Also in the case of the DTi with a hybrid ecu/fuel pump, if the pump goes then so does the remap

Certainly I can see the benefits from the DTi point of view!

I dunno, I guess that I would prefer a Remap, I arent a fan of tuning boxes! Plus they're becomming an MOT failure.

And tuning boxes in general tend to be cheaper.... quality and reliability are sacrificed for lower price.

I guess it depends where you go? DTUK boxes are over £300. Remaps are less. Unless you get it second hand or off eBay I guess lol.
