Default vectra selection advice required please

    Hi There

My partner is looking to purchase a vectra, she'd like power with reasonable economy and reliability but also likes all the toys and preferably half leather, her budget is nearly 4k, and she would probably also be looking to carry out some mods hopefully within that budget. Petrol preferred. Any advice re engine choice and spec please would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    mine is an elegance.
came with almost all the toys except leather.
you could look at the elite. Think that had the most toys as standard and came with leather.

I had a 4k budget and ideally wanted as new a possible a car, with as few miles as possible.

In the end i narrowed my search for an SRI facelift model, as i preferred the looks over the others and there wasn't much difference in price.

Then i went on to look at engines, diesel sounded the best option but then i worked out how much it would save me and it was about £400 per year, which seems a lot, but not when the equivalent diesel car is about £1000 more than petrol at this budget.

So petrol it was....the 1.8 vvt on paper didnt seem much different to the 2.2i direct in performance, and parkers actually stated the 2.2 was pointless in the vectra and that the 1.8 was the best choice.

So to narrow my search down, i went across to vauxhall to completely waste their time test driving a 1.8 vvt exclusive.

No offence to those who own one on here, but it just was not powerful enough in such a big car. Couldn't even feel the acceleration, very bland and just not for me.

Then i found a 2006 55 SRI direct with 87k for £3900 and i bought it over the moon with it, the 2.2 has no cambelt and providing its been serviced properly the chain shouldnt give you any problems. Its massively different to drive than the 1.8, much better low down power (the 6 speed gearbox may also help here).

I am getting 36-39 mpg average over these cold months which is 2-4 less than my 1.6 megane i had before it!

To conclude....in my opinion, the 2.2i Direct SRI is the one to go for, you get:
    150ish bhp
    36-40 mpg without really trying
    Nice 17" alloy wheels
    air con
    Cruise
    Full mpg trip display
    Different bumper styling
and on the 2.2, 2 exhausts

    HTH!

    Vehicle : vectra-c

    Trim : sri

    Engine : cdti

    Year : 2004

    Mileage : 98,000

    Default

Test drive a 1.8, Then you'll want to try the 2.2 cos the 1.8 is crap, Then next comes the cdti's, Once tried you'll not bother with a petrol!, There's plenty of good cdti's out there with all of the niggly bits already done & within your budget.

    Vehicle : Facelift Insignia/Corsa D

    Trim : LE/VXR

    Engine : 2.0 cdti/1.6 Turbo

    Year : 13/07

For the best combination on power, mod-ability, reiability and value for money she needs to take a look at the 2 litre turbo.

Loads of power standard, easily mapped, not many problems compared to other models oh and did I mention its a turbo

Would have to agree with the the 2.0T. More scope to MOD than the 2.2 with no turbo.
