    Default derv?

alright I realise this is showing myself up as totally ignorant but what does ''derv'' mean. Obviously I can guess from context its slang for diesel is that right? What exactly does it refer to.? Been hoping to avoid asking this for a while but I can't stand its no more. WTF is a derv?!?!
I feel a bit of a derv now actually.

Never be afraid to ask a question. How stupid you might think it might be. I dare say there are others who would like to ask the same question. But don,t have the courage to do so.

Derv was also widely used to describe diesel fuel, especially in the days before diesel-engined cars were commonplace. Yes, I am that old!

Was just about to mention that, I'm not old (22 infact) but my better half's father is a tanker driver and refers to it as "derv" even though he isn't delivering "diesel engined road vehicles"

Yep, my dad drove hackneys for 50 years, and it was always 'derv'.
