Thread: Insignia VXR Power Downgrade?

    Default Insignia VXR Power Downgrade?

I've heard a number of Insignia VXR owners having problems with the clutches.

Its a very heavy car with super grippy four wheel drive system with 325 BHP as standard... and it appears the clutch isnt up to the job.

So Vauxhall may have decided to fix the problem, not by upgrading the clutch... but reflashing the ECU on the car and downgrading the power to 300 BHP

So I dont know this for certain, but thats what I've heard.

How annoyed would you be to end up with a power reduction at your first service?

I would want an upgraded clutch or a full refund.

Your not getting what you've paid for in my opinion. Uprating the clutch should be the first option.

Is it the clutch thats the issue or the way they are driven though? AWD needs to be driven off the line differently to a 2WD car. You can't just dump the clutch for example as a 2WD car will just spin where a AWD will just grip putting a much bigger load on the drive train.

If it is because its a poor design I'd be well pee'd off!

It all depends on how they map it. It could actually be just as quick. If this is true, I would imagine Vauxhall would not downgrade the power as they would have to type approve the car at 300PS. Also there would be ininsurance issues as the car is not producing the power it was when new.

Beleive it or not Insurance class down graiding power as a modification as well!

It would more than likely be new software that limits the power in 1st and 2nd gear to protect the running gear.

This is what they did with Calibra Turbo back in the 90's.

if true, i'd be furious especially if they went ahead and did it without telling me.
    what a flipping cheek

the failed clutches could be due to some of the owners remapping them while under warranty, who knows.

yes - this'd make more sense.
can't really see the benefit of reducing peak bhp, but torque limiting in 1st and 2nd gear does make sense, if the original map was a bit fierce.
they should have sorted issues like that out in development, mind.

i'll definately have a paddy if they do that to mine without saying anything ! i wouldn't put it past em though , i know the scooby boys who go for lightening starts go through a fair few clutches so i guess it will hinge on the person behind the wheel

Power is not what will be effecting the clutches, it's torque. They could quite easlily reduce the torque wthout reducung the peak power figure of 325PS.
