Question Help needed with sony memory stick pro duo and ericsson p800

Can someone help me with my little problem? I am trying to put some new software on my old sony ericsson p800 symbian v7 phone. The software is to go on the memory stick pro.
The original memory stick (16mb) seems to work fine but when I put my 512mb in it says "disc corrupt". Ok ill get a new one. Put that in and it still says the stick (disc) corrupt!
The 16 mb is made by sony, one of the 512mb is made by sony and the other 512mb is made by sandisk. Dont know if it makes any difference but the 2 512mb have the word "magicgate" on them but the 16mb doesnt.

This is sending me round the bend, thanks, SR.

It might be the "magicgate" type cards that are not compatible.
Just done a search for you and found this info:

MagicGate is a copy-protection technology introduced by Sony in 1999 as part of the Secure Digital Music Initiative (SDMI). It works by encrypting the content on the device and using MagicGate chips in both the storage device and reader to enforce control over how files are copied.

MagicGate encryption is used in the memory cards of the PlayStation 2 and, as of 2004, has been introduced into all of Sony's Memory Stick products. Some devices, such as Sony's Network Walkman, will only accept Memory Sticks which use MagicGate technology.

All Memory Stick Duo cards equipped with MagicGate can be identified by a notch located on the rear end of the card.

    Hope this helps you m8

Think you could be spot on there mate, just had a look on back of 16mb card and no notch but its there on the 512mb card. There not to expensive on flee bay but not seen any that are rated at 512mb and are not magicgate. Looks like i'll be shopping again. Cheers for the info.

Not sure about the Magicgate-thing, but as you can see on the pictures the 16Mb is a 'Memory Stick Duo' and the 512 is a 'Memory Stick PRO Duo' ...these are not the same.
For instance, on my Sony Cybershot, both are supposed to work "However, proper operation cannot be guaranteed"... (depends of the medium on which it is formatted)

    Thumbs down

Well done a bit of trauling around and the highest mb card you can get for the p800 is 128, or something like that. I neaded a 512mb for this . So it looks like im back to the drawing board. Might still put the screen in for the car kit and the toy factor or look through ebay for a p910 which will accomadete the 512mb card. But as im pulling the phone to pieces do not want to spend to much.
