Default New member and thermostat woes

I'm a new member here, I decided to join because i've been directed here by many google searches about the thermostat on an 1.9 CDTI 8v (Z19DT).

Basically the thermostat wasn't working so i bought on from VX for £45inc VAT after bartering with them, i assumed it would be an easy job two bolts? easy...

After draining the coolant i began pulling pipes of the stat, unpluged the temp sensor and removed the top bolt securing the stat at this point it was going great i only had one more bolt to remove and the stat would be free and new one it all done in less than an hour.

Then i seen that ****** braket and it went down hill from there i removed the 8mm nut and at first tried to lever the exhaust gas cooler out the way but it didnt work i couldnt see any other bolts securing the thing so i undone the clamps on it not knowing about them gaskets until i come here and read about them and the two screws securing the cooler in place. luckily i found both gaskets which must have fell out as i wiggled it to get the stat off.

Anyway i managed to get the new stat in with just as much struggle as removing it hooked everything up, filled the coolant up and started it with everything working perfect.

Haynes manual was absolutely useless, I believe that's written on a 16v.

Many thanks to this Club and its very knowledgeable members.

Full service next including that other easy job which this forum has highlighted as a pig of a job glow plugs

    Sorry for the long post

P.S the stat change took nore than six hours over 3days
