    Default Steering, yet another problem

Hi people. Latest problem on the list is last night went to leave my drive and noticed a new light i had never seen before on the dashboard, steering wheel with the exclamation mark. Steering was dead and it was a struggle to turn the wheel but I persisted and it seemed fine afterwards but then two miles or so up the road it happened again. Switched the car off and it was fine. Took it to my mechanic friend and he read the code as C1550 (replace electronic control unit) Took it away and drove it 9 or so miles and it was okay. Started it this morning and it is back though :-(

    Anyone else had this problem?

Hope it doesn't cost much to fix as I'm listing the car for sale on ebay this week and it has already bled me dry of hundreds of pounds already :-(

That's the first thing that I thought of but having spoken to the mechanic, the steering isn't hydraulic, it is computerised so there isn't any real mechanics involved. Why do the make these things so complicated!

Wished I could go back to the days of the old XR2 when if it went wrong, it meant an enjoyable afternoons work fixing it with nuts and bolts! Not these days though where you need a degree in computer science to solve any probs!

Either way I'm going to try using it this morning and if it goes wrong and I crash and burn then so be it, at least I'll get the insurance money.........if I survive that is.
