    Default 2.2 dti thermostat

i think mine might need changing?

in this weather( between 5 and 10º) id say my car takes a good 6 mile ride( none motorway) before the needle even starts to lift.

is this right or is it new thermostat time?

    regards
    al.

The diesels do take time to get warm. When my thermostat went on my 2.2dti the needle on lifted to about 75 degrees after 45 mins of vigerous driving! I went on a 360 mile round trip a few months ago and it only moved briefly to 75 degrees whilst lost of over taking took place before dropping back down!

Does your get up to 90 degrees at all? Perhaps your journeys are too short?

I had this problem with my Vectra would barely get to 85 degrees after a long trip now after having the thermostat changed now sits nicely at 92 +- 1-2 degrees easy way to check is when you've just started the car after 5 or so minutes check the radiator and the pipes leading to it, they shouldn't be warm if the thermostat is working properly, and another thing is how long does it take the cabin to heat up if you set the heating controls to max? as the water flowing through the matrix will be pretty damn cold too

My 2.2 DTi SRi takes about 5-6 miles of gentle driving to lift, then it's up to 88 degrees in no time.

If it's driven hard, it moves within a couple of miles, then again up to 88 degrees in no time.

Trip to work is 3 1/2 miles and the needle barely moves. cruising it's sitting around 90 degrees, 85-90 with the heater on.... I take that as normal and as far as I'm aware there's no reason to believe i have a thermostat problem am I right?

i have a petrol but i reckon the following applies equally to diesels. The time taken to warm up is not a good indicator of failed stat. Its if it drops back down to bottom once full temp is acheived. If your stat is working this should never happen.
Obviously if your car is taking hours to warm up this does probably indicate a problem
