Your lucky i only get 35 mpg same engine as yourself.I dont do much motorway miles right enough 7 miles to work and back again.Im going to give it a service this weekend if it stays dry.It was only about 31-32 mpg but as the better weather has came in it has increased.

My MPG has gone up after recently having the thermostat changed. Not massively, but enough to notice it. Would be worth sorting it out anyway.

I was only getting 38mpg on a run,but my dpf and my messing with it may have caused that, and a tuning box fitted.
My temp guage sits at 80 too
    And fully serviced
But i've had a remap and i am getting 41mpg at the moment, still not as good as i was hoping, seeing as some say they get late 40's early 50's with the same engine, unless they drive like a snail,i just like to get to where i'm going

150 Auto hatch by the way.

The thermostat does effect the MPG as it takes longer to warm up. Also a ****** good service will help. Although mine is a DTI my MPG got down to 31mpg. After replacing the stat and giving it a full service including engine flush and ALL filters changed I'm now back up to 42mpg. 11mpg difference! I drive approx 30 miles a day (15 to work and back). 75% is motorway and 25% urban.

On 15 mile a/B roads it would barely have got up to full operating temp anyway, if the thermostat's had it then it just makes it worse.
