    Default Vectra 2.0t (Z20NET) - diesel sound?

    Hello,

    Does anybody knows why my vectra sometimes sounds like diesel if I start it from cold?
    Noise is not present always and if I switch engine off and then start again it runs fine.
    I change oil and filter every 10K miles (Mobil 1 0w-40) and my driving style is not too sharp. It is 2007 vectra with 60K miles on the clock.

    Can be this problem related with my poor battery? When it's cold outside It shows 11.9V on-screen before engine is on and if I start the engine voltage drops down to 9.8V ? After few seconds voltage is back on 14.3V.

    Lack of oil to the timing chain? (or is that the 2.2)

    When was the oil last changed?

    don't think i would run that engine like that ..better get it checked out before some real damage occurs ...to me sounds like oil is not reaching the parts it should and can only result in one costly experience

    Thank you for reply!

    Oil was changed 2 weeks ago...filled to one dash under MAX indicator (5,7l) and the noise is present since I have this car (one year). This noise only happens maybe twice in a month and always in the morning when it is cold.
    As soon I turn engine off and start it again, it is quiet as a mouse.

    Does this engine have "camshaft phase variator"? I was told that some similar noise on other cars comes from that thing.

    Tech2 doesn't show any faults and this problem is so rarely present that it can not be reproduced on service.

    Any advice?

    agreed... its so not right, should not be ignored just because it goes away.

    Can't play the youtube file at work, but chances are it's either a lazy hydraulic lifter, or a sticky tensioner for the timing chain.

    Either way, as said, don't ignore it.

    The 2.0T should be ultra-quiet at all times, including at idle. Needs checking out pronto.

    this doesn't sound cheap

    How can service check either of this thing without stripping engine off?

    Can be this related with wrong/strange map on this car?
