    Default Handbrake adjustment

Would this be part of a full main dealer service?

handbrake is self adjusting unless you have stretched the cable and need a new one

Hmm OK... the lever rises up a little too much for my liking. Sometimes hits the underside of the arm rest if I whack it on hard for hill parking etc..

As above, it self-adjusts every time you pull the handbrake on unless you feel/hear a big clunk at some point when you are pulling the lever up in which case the self-adjusting mechanism in the handbrake lever unit may be failing causing excessive lever travel whenever it does this.

This has happened on mine and I've got a new handbrake lever to fit. I asked about handbrake cables but the dealer said they'd never sold any so I decided to leave the existing ones on.

The other thing is there there is an adjustment mechanism on the back of the handbrake lever unit - remove the panel below the rear power socket / cigarette lighter to reveal the bolt. However, neither Vauxhall or Haynes mention it at all...

would fitting a new handbrake cure the clunk noise? mine has done it a few times!

No, that's most likely not the cables. Remove the rear part of the centre console to reveal the handbrake adjuster mechanism at the base of the handbrake unit then chock the wheels and just keep applying the handbrake and watching the mechanism to see if it slips when the the clunk is felt/heard.

If this is the problem, then you need a new handbrake lever assembly and locking (celvis) pin from a dealer for about £100. You have to remove the exhaust (theoretically the whole lot, but I've managed just to remove the rear and centre sections on my DTi) and the front silencer heatshield as well as the rear section of the centre console to replace it. If you have a CDTi, there may be the DPF to consider as well, but I don't know as I haven't got one.

I spoke to them the other day. They told me there wasnt a recall on it. Ive read on here that there is.
Is it worth giving another vx dealership a call?

How are the rear pads looking!, if there ok it maybe a sticking caliper/piston or streched cable.
