Default 2.2 Elite Direct Timing Chain Snapped

Yesterday morning I noticed that the engine sounded a little bit noisier than usual; a bit like a loose heat deflector on the exhaust in the engine compartment.
Suspected the timing chain so I thought I would book it in at my local independant for next week.
Time to leave work and the engine just span rather quick without firing up, oh ******.
The RAC confirmed my worst fears as did my local garage. It will probably need the cylinder head fettling, new valves and chains, probable cost around £1400.

Year of car 2006 and only 46K on the clock. Oil last changed at 39,000 miles and a slight sign of emulsification.

2.2 engines which are saab engines are re-known for timing chains, its a must to have oil changes as regular as clock work, since working at the garage i work at ive had 7 come in with snapped chains, all these are down to poor oils and poor service history. I could be wrong with your engine mate but im afraid its not a cheap fix as you have well found out.
Ive also found out that the oil pumps can suffer aswell

Has the car always been serviced by Vauxhall?

I had a tensioner failure on mine and Vauxhall contributed 70% of the repair bill for a new chain and fitting. Luckily the chain didn't snap.

Have a read of this thread to see if it's any help -

Serviced by a local independant. I always get the oil changed well before the service interval as I have done with all my cars; you can usually hear the difference.

The low mileage and "slight sign of emulsification" suggests short journeys too.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Yes, 8.5 mile each way to work and a 60 mile trip to the in laws once too often.

Then it's unlikely that Vauxhall will give you any kind of goodwill gesture.
