Nope it should be a cherry red colour, that looks like it's well past it! A good fluid change or two might sort your problems depending on what they are.

I'd change it once, clean the filter (I can't remember if this can be done on the Vec, might have to take the bottom of the sump off), fill up with fresh oil then in 500 miles repeat the process again. That'll give the box a good flush.

Over the years I have read about and also carried out many ATF flush / changes. The fluid does get that colour easily in normal running and the gum and sludge then gets into valve bodies and does cause shift issues.
most important factor is to get exactly the right replacement fluid and get enough for potentially four changes.

The amount that drains is probably only 1/3 of the total held in the box and torque convertor, so it takes time to get it flushed.

If you were to drain the sump, measure the amount then refill the same quantity, run for about 20 miles then allow to cool, unless you have asbestos hands!
Drop this second time, then replace the filter and rebuild.

Refill once again but this time observe the method to get the level near right and run again maybe 50>100 miles.
Drop this again when cool, another 100 miles after do a final drop & fill

This will get you about 85% of the old oil flushed out and will (or should!) transform shift smoothness.

    Derek
