Talking Hello, my name is Duncan.....

...and I'm an Admin on here.

Okay, slightly tongue in cheek post but as a lot of you will be aware, until literally just the past couple of weeks I hadn't posted on the forum for months, well under my own user name anyway.

Still been active behind the scenes with club stuff, and posting as Admin/Webmaster, but not as much as normal simply due to work and family commitments. Run up to Christmas was just silly busy with work and family stuff, and having things like a new carpet fitted throughout a large part of the house just before Christmas and having to move a whole lot of stuff/units etc. into storage took an inordinate amount of my time!!

After New Year, as you may have seen, there was the small matter of me not being very well!

Basically just after New Year I started to get what seemed like stomach pains, After a week of this on and off I saw a doctor who thought I had a stomach/gastro irritation and gave me pills to stop the acid production. At this point I wasn't showing any signs of appendicitis. Next day my pain was even worse so I saw doctor again in afternoon, still wasn't showing symptoms as such, although a more localised pain in my appendix area. Doctor wasn't happy with my situation so sent me to hospital. On admission the consultant checked me over, asked history of previous 10 days, and said that what I was describing wasn't appendicitis. I was thinking, "Well if it isn't that then what the is it as it's now really painful!!" lol

Stayed overnight and he checked me next morning. I almost hit the ceiling when he touched my appendix area so that was that, appendix was coming out that afternoon. Turns out when they went in it had actually burst! and was quite nasty.

Felt better that evening and even better the following day (Friday), and thinking I'd be getting out on the Saturday. Oh no! Friday evening I awoke with a massive pain down the right side of my chest, couldn't breath fully without it hurting. Suddenly I had a whole load of doctors/nurses coming and going, mobile x-ray machine at my bed x-raying my chest, taking arterial blood to check for oxygen levels along with umpteen other tests.

After a CT scan the following day, turns out I had a partially collapsed lung! Also, even though they'd got rid of most of what had come out of the burst appendix, there is often inevitably a little bit that can remain inside and slosh around the other internal organs, with the danger of peritonitis! An infection was trying to take hold as by this point I was puking my guts up on a regular basis with lovely bile coming up! Marvellous! So for the next five days they pumped me full of antibiotics intravenously four times a day.

So that weekend I felt like absolute, you know what, and was very ill indeed. Mrs Duncan came in to see me and just stopped in her tracks when she saw me as she'd never seen me in that state.

By the Monday started to turn the corner until I was finally discharged on the Thursday, nine days after being admitted. Then it was a case of recuperating at home and getting back to full fitness.

I was told that, as I'd had keyhole surgery, I wasn't limited in terms of lifting etc. and to just take it easy/don't go beyond my limits. Well how do you know your limits unless you push yourself to them?!

Two weeks after I was out I was changing the rear discs and pads on the car, which the following day I probably realised hadn't been the best idea! lol With the grunt needed, and awkward positioning, to get the caliper bolts off I may have found, and gone past, my limits at the time!

So after that I took it a bit more easy and refrained from doing any more car stuff, well until the other weekend when I replaced the alternator on the car!

So, now back on the forum more regularly and looking forward to all the club events that we'll be displaying at, as well as hoping to make it to some regional events too - plus getting stuck into a whole bunch of changes etc. within the club/forum.

EDIT: I forgot to say, sorry m8, a big thanks to Gary for taking the lion's share of the Admin responsibilities when I was 'AWOL' and of course to the Mods for a sterling job of managing the forum on a day to day basis.

You could say that! One of the five guys who started the club up almost six years ago and the only one of those currently still an Admin.
