Default Additional Lights in Boot - WEIRD problem

    Hi All

Having seen the threads on here about fitting extra led's to the boot area I thought I would do this small mod, as the original light is pathetic.

I bought an illuminating push switch so that I can switch the additional lights on and off independantly of the boot light. And I took the power for this switch (and the LEDs) from the back of the original light . . So that they would also go off automatically on closing the boot (if I ever forgot to turn them off).

    NOW THE "WEIRD" BIT ! ! !

The LED's and the illumination on the switch that I fitted do NOT go out when I close the boot. . . . . . The original boot light goes out but not the illuminated switch or the LED's ! ! ! !

I took the earth point for the LED's & illuminated switch from one of the nuts holding the alarm in place.

Having faffed about a bit (technical expression ) trying different things to solve this problem; I tried moving the earth point . . . When I moved the earth point to the rear of the original boot light THEN the LED's and illuminated light switch go out when the boot is closed.

    SO question is . . . . How can moving the earth point make a difference ? ? ?

Any thoughts / comments gratefully received because this is really doing my head in ! ! ! ! ! How can moving an earthing point make a difference ? ? ?

It is a switched earth just like the interior lights,
The boot light has a constant 12v and the earth is turned On/Off.

WHY would you have a switched earth ? ? ?

That's what I did in the end mate. . . Just couldn't understand why it made a difference, but now I do . . . Although I don't understand why vauxhall would make a switched -ve , rather than a switched +ve, seems to go against all know convention / logic. ! !

With most cars the door contact switches are fixed to the metal body of the car, so when a door is opened the circuit is earthed. This means you only need to run one wire to each door and the boot. The vec c has micro switches rather than the old type. And its probably safer having less power wires around the car.
