Here's one for the tech's.

Don't know but I could be completly wrong. Would it be possible to connect a CDC40 DAB box to a CD70?

I have a CDC40 with DAB and love it. But I would also like the CD70 sat nav but only if I could add the DAB feature to it.

I don't think it would be possible, the CDC40 head unit 'knows' about the DAB box where-as a CD70 doesn't.
It would be possible to add an aftermarket DAB receiver but I don't think it would do the VX DAB box.

This is a tricky one really, as there is no factual evidence that this would / would not work.

IF !!! the CD70 "could" use the DAB unit, then you would need to do a bit of jiggery pokery.

1) The CD70 would require an Aux-In facilty (either from the factory or the wiring modification), to allow for the audio input from the DAB Box.

2) You would need to fit the DAB Loom and the aerial bits..

3) You would need an expert, or at least a miracle to get the items to program together.


Strictly speaking the answer is no, however I have been looking for a donor DAB box to see if I could do it on my cavalier..

There have been many "projects" deemed not possible, only for a few adventurous people to prove the cynics wrong.

The "limitations" to the audio system are down to lack of knowledge, rather than anything else more concrete.

Personally, I would get a Tom Tom, Garmin etc sat nav, and fit it into your driver's side centre air-vent...
This has been done successfully a couple of times.

Finally, most owners of CDC40's have found it near enough impossible to retro-fit DAB... and that is for the radio that the DAB box was designed to pair upto..

Rob i am agreed with you when i was looking at the schematics. The audio outputs of dab box are in analog, however the control is via canbus.

The only problem is whether the dab is controlled by Screen, or by radio.
As far as i can guess CD70 have no capability to operate dab unit.

So two possible conclusions:
a) dab unit is controlled by screen.
then we can manually switch to auxin in radio and operate the dab via screen.

b) dab unit is controlled by radio.
nothing we can do then...

The DAB is controlled via the screen

So if you get the CAN system to kick the aux-in into life, then this will do the same job..

I am sure it is not a total coincidence that the Graphic Info Display can be used for both CDC40 and CD70 as a "standard" display..

If anyone would like to donate a free DAB box to me, then I shall find out for you
Oh and do the wiring upgrade for my CD70 too *whistles innocently*

I might be able to get a DAB box from a CDC40 handy. But not my own.

If the DAB box is controlled by the screen? How bout I take my CDC40 out pop in the CD70 and see if I still have the DAB feature? Shall I try that tomorrow or is it just a pie in the sky?

someone posted this link in another thread which suggests that the colour screen can also be used for the cdc40 as well so there may be some common circuitry with the 2 units.

Worth trying but remember to depair the CDC40 then pair the CD70 in.
