    Default CV Joints - Fubar?

A few weeks ago, I had a rumble appear a few weeks after replacing the front tyres.
Had wheels up, no movement that wasn't supposed to be there, no untoward noises when spinning the wheels (all 4 I might add) and as the noise is no worse on corners I discounted the bearings. I just put it down to the Maxxis V -rated tyres making a row as some guys suggested in my previous thread.

Well, the car has covered summat like 2000 miles with this noise, and it's getting a tad on my t1ts, so this morning, with a bit of time to myself, I jacked car up and this time, removed the front wheels and oh deary me, I found this on both sides.......

Could this be the cause of the rumbling?
It starts about 20mph and totally constant with road speed as opposed to engine speed.

Is it a hard job to replace the CV joints?
I have the discs and pads to change at the front, so if possible, I'll do these.
Not used to this front wheel drive malarkey to be honest!

He means that when you remove the cv joint which you have to ,to replace the rubber boot you will loose a small amount of oil from the gearbox.

can you top up gear box oil in the level nut hole ?. because the manual tells you to undo the level bolt and then undo another nut high to put the oil in untill it comes out the level hole . so i thought i could just put in that hole first ?

    Aah - cheers for that!

Looking at the price of CV joint kits on eBay, I might as well replace the whole lot, both sides for peace of mind.

Anyone think this would be the cause of the rumble?

I have been told by my garage that both of my inboard joints have excessive wear, most likely due to someone in the past allowing them to run dry when the boot had failed

Biting the bullet - refurbed driveshafts being fitted today - £400-ish, but at least both ends are new and sorted for a long time to come!
