Mine defaults to automatic which can't be switched off. It normally seems to pick up messages using 'Tm Tmc'.

Whether you pick up messages will depend on your settings. It is quite possible you may not have any current messages because your settings are either limited by type of message, distance or location.

Changing settings to 'all messages' will prove definitively whether you are receiving messages. Even with a more restricted message option you will still be able to identify all the messages that are currently being issued nationwide via the 'Map' option on NAV 'Settings' Menu, and using the up/down/left/right locator buttons, for which there should be an icon displayed in the bottom right-hand corner of that 'Map' screen. If the icon is there but you cannot move the map on the screen then you are not receiving any messages at all.

I am using original 2004/5 firmware and 2009/10 mapping disc, and have no problems. Hope that makes sense.

Yip, makes sense. While I was driving this morn I started to receive messages under the heading TM TMC. The icons also appeared on the TMC map and I was able to scroll through them using the locator arrows. This only happened for a short period tho, and I havn't received anything since. When I select Info then TMC, the system is set on automatic and can't be changed. I will check it again if and when I receive anymore messages to see if I can change the settings. Does anyone know if the traffic master signal is stronger in some areas than others, and if this has an effect on the level and frequency of messages received? Thanks for all the info so far!

Got mine from e-bay as well. £50 for the genuine 09/10 disc. More than I wanted to pay, but got into a mini bidding war! Read a few threads which advised staying clear of the 10/11 disc due to whole TMC vs traffic master issue. Probably should have gone for the 10/11 disc taking account of the problems I'm having anyway. You live and learn!!!
