Default 72k on 1.9cdti 150...should I get timing belt done?

I'm in a proper dilemna here. My vec has 72k on now and I keep thinking should I have the timing belt done? I've already had loads go wrong with the car (inlet manifold, EGR, alternator) so I'm not the luckiest!! I'm only keeping the car for about another 18 months so don't really want to be spending megabucks on it. I have AA breakdown repair cover which will pay up to £500 for a repair. This has already been worth it's £75 per year when they paid out for the inlet manifold!! This would go some way towards cost if the worst happened. I know this is not by any means the best logic to employ
If I do get it done can anyone in the north east recommend anyone?? It takes me long enough to decide where to take it to get service done. Should I get the water pump done at the same time? If I decided not to get it done and it went does this totally wreck the engine?? How much would I be looking at if it went?

The car is 2006 (56 plate)

Mine was done at 65,000 and the water pump was on it's last legs, not much longer and it would have seized.

It is in the handbook for 100K intervals but your thinking is very sound as I plan on doing mine with waterpump at your mileage point myself as I think 100K is just too far
